The Avellino Best Clinic Award, which honors ophthalmology clinics prioritizing patient safety, has been held.

‘The Avellino Best Clinic Award,’ hosted annually by Avellino, a global biotech company engaged in the research and development of genetic diagnostics, is presented to ophthalmology clinics that consistently perform genetic testing for corneal dystrophy in patients before refractive surgeries like LASIK, LASEK, and SMILE Lasik, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the surgeries’ safety.

Corneal dystrophy, a primary genetic eye disease, is characterized by the accumulation of light gray  proteins in the cornea, leading to corneal opacity. It is crucial to test for corneal dystrophy genetic mutations before refractive surgeries, as individuals born with these mutations can experience rapid progression of corneal opacity and vision loss following procedures like SMILE LASIK, LASIK, and LASEK.

MARY’S EYE CLINIC △SHINSEGAE EYE CLINIC, totaling 18 clinics.

Meanwhile, Avellino’s ‘Avellino Lab Universal Test’ can simultaneously test for the five most common genetic mutations associated with corneal dystrophy worldwide.
